Chapters 7-9 follow Equiano continuing to yearn for freedom. And he was “not long ungratified.” He has such a way of writing that just wraps you up in it, my favorite part of this section comes in chapter 7. He is expecting to come into some money additional to that he would receive before he purchases his freedom, “In this expectation I laid out above eight pounds of my money for a suit of super-fine blue cloaths to dance in at my freedom.” This stood up to me so deeply I think because throughout the novel, Equiano is so focused on freedom and making it out, that the sudden frivolity (not without saving and rationing his money) felt so human and real to me.
